You only need puff pastry and a tasty apple filling to make these simple apple turnovers. Great for dessert or breakfast!
INGREDIENTS
APPLE TURNOVERS:– 1 (17.3-ounce) package puff pastry, thawed according to package direction– 2 cups (240 grams) chopped apple peeled, cored, and chopped into small piece– 1/4 cup (50 grams) granulated sugar– 1 tablespoon (8 grams) all-purpose flour– 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon– 1 large egg white– 1 tablespoon (15 ml) waterVANILLA GLAZE:– 1 cup (120 grams) powdered sugar– 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract– 1 to 2 tablespoons (15 to 30 ml) milk
INSTRUCTIONS
Heat the oven to 400°F (204°C). Put parchment paper on a large baking sheet. Combine chopped apple, sugar, flour, and cinnamon in a large bowl and mix well. Let the mixture sit for 15–20 minutes.
1
Unroll both thawed puff pastry pieces, roll them out with a rolling pin, and cut them into four squares for eight pieces. Whisk egg white and water until frothy and set aside.
2
With a slotted spoon, spoon 1/4 cup of apple filling (leaving as much juice in the bowl) into one puff pastry corner, leaving enough room to fold the dough over. Fold and fork-crimp the puff pastry's two apple filling corner edges after brushing them with egg wash.
3
Top each turnover with the remaining egg wash and cut two to three slits. Bake 17–20 minutes until lightly golden brown and cooked through. Let cool after removing from oven.
4
Mix powdered sugar, vanilla, and 1 tablespoon (15 ml) milk in a small bowl. To achieve the desired glaze consistency, add 1/2 teaspoon of milk at a time. Apply glaze evenly to all turnovers.
